Jersey Girl 04:33
I got no time for the corner boys Down in the street making all that noise Or the girls out on the avenue 'Cause tonight I wanna be with you Tonight I'm gonna take that ride Across the river to the Jersey side Take my baby to the carnival And I'll take her on all the rides 'Cause down the shore everything's all right You and your baby on a Saturday night You know all my dreams come true When I'm walking down the street with you Sha la la la la la la Sha la la la la la la la la Sha la la la la la la la Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl You know she thrills me with all her charms When I'm wrapped up in my baby's arms 'Cause nothing matters in this whole wide world When you're in love with a Jersey girl Sha la la la la la la Sha la la la la la la la la Sha la la la la la la la Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl

Landslide 04:05
I took my love, I took it down Climbed a mountain and turned around And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills 'Til the landslide brought me down Oh, mirror in the sky What is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? Well, I've been afraid of changin' 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older, too Solo Well, I've been afraid of changin' 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older, too Oh, I'm getting older, too Ah take my love, take it down I climbed a mountain and I turned around And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide’ll bring it down And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down Oh, the landslide will bring it down

When I was young I'd listen to the radio Waitin' for my favorite songs When they played I'd sing along It made me smile. Those were such happy times And not so long ago How I wondered where they'd gone But they're back again Just like a long lost friend All the songs I loved so well. Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's so fine. When they get to the part Where he's breakin' her heart It can really make me cry Just like before It's yesterday once more. Lookin' back on how it was In years gone by And the good times that I had Makes today seem rather sad So much has changed. It was songs of love that I would sing to then And I'd memorize each word Those old melodies Still sound so good to me As they melt the years away. Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's so fine. All the best memories Come back clearly to me Some can even make me cry Just like before It's yesterday once more.

You're just too good to be true I can't take my eyes off you You'd be like heaven to touch I wanna hold you so much At long last love has arrived And I thank God I'm alive You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off you Pardon the way that I stare There's nothing else to compare The sight of you leaves me weak There are no words left to speak But if you feel like I feel Please let me know that is real You're just too good to be true I can't take my eyes off you I need you baby And if it's quite all right I need you baby To warm the lonely nights I love you baby Trust in me when I say okay Oh pretty baby Don't let me down I pray Oh pretty baby Now that I've found you stay And let me love you, oh baby Let me love you You're just too good to be true I can't take my eyes off you You'd be like heaven to touch I wanna hold you so much At long last love has arrived And I thank God I'm alive You're just too good to be true Can't take my eyes off of you I need you baby And if it's quite all right I need you baby To warm the lonely nights I love you baby Trust in me when I say it's okay Oh pretty baby Don't let me down I pray Oh pretty baby Now that I've found you stay And let me love you, oh baby Let me love you, oh baby

Messy Girl 03:29
I want to sing into your ear Low and sweet, so only you can hear I want to say it out loud But I don’t want to be heard I’m a messy girl You may as well learn I am falling Off or into Or out of I don’t know I am on my knees to make this life look easy I am clinging My arms around the neck, of the white horse on the counter If I could grab the golden ring As the carousel swirls round this thing Where would I go? I want to say it out loud But I don’t want to be heard I am not a cool girl You may as well learn I am falling Off or into Or out of I don’t know I am on my knees to make this life look easy
6.
Shattered dreams, worthless years Here am I encased inside a hollow shell Life began, then was done Now I stare into a cold and empty well The many sounds that meet our ears The sights our eyes behold Will open up our merging hearts And feed our empty souls I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever Without despair we will share And the joys of caring will not be replaced What has been must never end And with the strength we have won't be erased When the truths of love are planted firm They won't be hard to find And the words of love I speak to you Will echo in your mind I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever I'm so glad that I found someone to believe in again God surely answered my prayer You know God surely answered my prayer God always will answer your prayers Believe in one who will answer my prayer Come on, let's fall in love You're the woman I've been waiting for Come on, let's fall in love You're the girl that I really adore Come on, let's fall in love (Don’t you wanna, don’t you wanna, don’t you wanna fall in love with me?)

the walking and constantly an endless stream of endless dreams that wheel and roll just past my shoulder the waiting and constantly an endless shift of sifting through the facts, the fey you never know for sure i was sure until they asked me now i don't know all i know is something touched me shadows lift my fingers don't let the cold... every now and then things become clear there's nothing that will bring you back there's nothing that will change this fact there's nothing that i will take back i know i know this is a fact i'm pretty sure i know i don't know i don't know i... i tell everyone a different story that way nothing's ever boring even when they turn and say you lied petals drifting past my shoulder or maybe snow - i'm cold i'm not sure someone yelled at me, i don't know why if you want someone to love you just let me know people pushing past me if you want someone to love you then don't just go every now and then things become clear there's nothing that will bring you back there's nothing that will change this fact there's nothing that i will take back your shoes you left you hat it's on the bed or else the chair i don't know i don't know i... the walking and constantly an endless stream of endless dreams that wheel and roll just past my shoulder that wheel and roll just past my shoulder

Let it Be 04:42
When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be And in my hour of darkness She is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be Let it be, let it be Let it be, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be And when the broken-hearted people Living in the world agree There will be an answer, let it be For though they may be parted There is still a chance that they will see There will be an answer, let it be Let it be, let it be Let it be, let it be Yeah, there will be an answer, let it be Let it be, let it be Let it be, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be Let it be, let it be Ah, let it be, yeah, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be And when the night is cloudy There is still a light that shines on me Shine on until tomorrow, let it be I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be Let it be, let it be Let it be, yeah, let it be Oh, there will be an answer, let it be Let it be, let it be Let it be, yeah, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Get Here 04:06
You can reach me by railway, you can reach me by trailway You can reach me on an airplane, you can reach me with your mind You can reach me by caravan, cross the desert like an Arab man I don't care how you get here, just - get here if you can You can reach me by sail boat, climb a tree and swing rope to rope Take a sled and slide down the slope, into these arms of mine You can jump on a speedy colt, cross the border in a blaze of hope I don't care how you get here, just - get here if you can There are hills and mountains between us Always something to get over If I had my way, surely you would be closer I need you closer You can windsurf into my life, take me up on a carpet ride You can make it in a big balloon, but you better make it soon You can reach me by caravan, cross the desert like an Arab man I don't care how you get here, just - get here if you can I don't care how you get here, just -- get here if - you can.

I never thought it would happen With me and the girl from Clapham Out on the windy common That night I ain't forgotten When she dealt out the rations With some or other passions I said "you are a lady" "Perhaps" she said. "I may be" We moved in to a basement With thoughts of our engagement We stayed in by the telly Although the room was smelly We spent our time just kissing The Railway Arms we're missing But love had got us hooked up And all our time it took up I got a job with Stanley He said I'd come in handy And started me on Monday So I had a bath on Sunday I worked eleven hours And bought the girl some flowers She said she'd seen a doctor And nothing now could stop her I worked all through the winter The weather brass and bitter I put away a tenner Each week to make her better And when the time was ready We had to sell the telly Late evenings by the fire With little kicks inside her This morning at four fifty I took her rather nifty Down to an incubator Where thirty minutes later She gave birth to a daughter Within a year a walker She looked just like her mother If there could be another And now she's two years older Her mother's with a soldier She left me when my drinking Became a proper stinging The devil came and took me From bar to street to bookie No more nights by the telly No more nights nappies smelling Alone here in the kitchen I feel there's something missing I'd beg for some forgiveness But begging's not my business And she won't write a letter Although I always tell her And so it's my assumption I'm really up the junction

And when I see the sign that points one way The lot we used to pass by every day Just walk away Renee You won't see me follow you back home The empty sidewalks on my block are not the same You're not to blame From deep inside the tears I'm forced to cry From deep inside the pain that I chose to hide Just walk away Renee You won't see me follow you back home Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes For me it cries Just walk away Renee You won't see me follow you back home Now as the rain beats down upon my weary eyes For me it cries

I am a lineman for the county. And I drive the main road. Searching in the sun for another overload. I hear you singing in the wire. I can hear you thru the whine. And the Wichita Lineman, is still on the line. I know I need a small vacation. But it don't look like rain. And if it snows that stretch down south, won't ever stand the strain. And I need you more than want you. And I want you for all time. And the Wichita Lineman, is still on the line. And I need you more than want you. And I want you for all time. And the Wichita Lineman, is still on the line

Puppet 05:09
I’ve been dragging this trunk around for years Its heavy and feels like dead weight Every now and then I stop and look inside It is as if you are before me Your presence is strong And with me wherever I go I rub the imaginary rosary constantly It slips through fingers like strands of hair You, on repeat I dangle, like a puppet at the end of your string at the end of my rope I am hit suddenly By the force of it That you’re really gonna let me go. There were a lot of words both written and unsaid They mostly flowed from me to you You kicked my heart lying at your feet Battered and war torn And you let it bleed You played the ostrich in the sand so grand Never taking flight despite your plumes as you ran I am a shell, I am shattered You, are not I dangle, like a puppet at the end of your string at the end of my rope I am hit suddenly By the force of it That you’re really gonna let me go.

about

COVERLINGS is the fourth album from electronic, pop artist and costume-lover Renee Cologne. This collection of 11 well-known songs from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s was born out of a hotel room in the mountains of Colorado while on tour with MeatLoaf. “I was dabbling with Joni Mitchell’s song “Both Sides Now”: I remember reading through the lyrics and being struck by how much their meaning had changed for me from when I first heard the song years ago. It was that space in between that I became fascinated with”.

It is from this “space in between” that this newest project was born. Pouring through the many songs, bands, artists and songwriters that had influenced and resonated with her over the years became a new kind of obsession. She was well underway recording one song after another before she even realized she was amassing a collection, in essence, a new record. “It was impossible for me to narrow down the songs I loved. So, the songs picked me.”

The title came to her early on: there was something alien about the word ‘coverling’ but also very human, as in earthling vs. alien; as in human acoustic sounds (voice, the sound of a bow on a string, a French horn) meeting alien electronic sounds (beats, created odd sounds, synths). In paying tribute to these varied artists, Cologne interprets, deconstructs, and then reconstructs the songs to create lush, ethereal covers that are both comfortingly familiar and strikingly alien.
